Died peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, 11/23/2016. He was Born in Arp, TX, and raised in Tyler, TX by Thomas and Alma Sloan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Velva Florence Sloan (Arami) of Montague, TX, and his son Jason Thomas Sloan. He is survived by his sister Opal Ogle, sons Steven Melvin Sloan, Bert Gene Sloan, Richard Dean Sloan, daughter Velinda Ann Sloan, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Died peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday, 11/23/2016. He was Born in Arp, TX, and raised in Tyler, TX by Thomas and Alma Sloan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Velva Florence Sloan (Arami) of Montague, TX, and his son Jason Thomas Sloan. He is survived by his sister Opal Ogle, sons Steven Melvin Sloan, Bert Gene Sloan, Richard Dean Sloan, daughter Velinda Ann Sloan, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII who served in the South Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Arlington where he further served his nation as a defense contractor around the globe for nearly 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and a lifelong motorcyclist, being a part of the Retreads and the International Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers. He served his community with multiple charitable activities, including Hearts and Hammers. The viewing will be held Tuesday November, 29th, from 5-7 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington. Service to follow from 7-8.
