Dorothy Baker Wallis, 96, went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2018. She was born on April 12, 1921 in Fall River, Massachusetts and was the only child and much beloved daughter of Francis M. Baker, Jr. and Mary Alice Morrissey Baker.

She attended Simmons College and Katharine Gibbs College in Boston. Shortly after World War II began, she met Fred M. Wallis of Denison, Texas, who was in Boston attending the Naval Officers Candidate School at Harvard. They married on February 19, 1944, in New York City, while he...

Dorothy Baker Wallis, 96, went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2018. She was born on April 12, 1921 in Fall River, Massachusetts and was the only child and much beloved daughter of Francis M. Baker, Jr. and Mary Alice Morrissey Baker.

She attended Simmons College and Katharine Gibbs College in Boston. Shortly after World War II began, she met Fred M. Wallis of Denison, Texas, who was in Boston attending the Naval Officers Candidate School at Harvard. They married on February 19, 1944, in New York City, while he was on leave from overseas. Having made the military his career, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and made their homes in Alabama, California, Missouri, Florida, Virginia, and Texas. After retiring from the military in 1962, they settled in Arlington, Texas.

The Wallis' were long time members of Pantego Bible Church, where Dorothy sang in the choir. She later became a member of Arlington Presbyterian Church, Arlington Women's Club and was one of the founding members of One Plus, a group for widowed, divorced or single women. She had been a resident at Autumn Leaves Memory Care facility since 2009.

The Wallis family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Autumn Leaves and Encompass Hospice for their warm and compassionate care during the final years of our mother's life.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Glenna Wallis and Leah Wallis Earl; her son, John B. Wallis, his wife, Chelle Wallis; and grandchildren, Adam Earl, Courtney Wallis, and Grayson Wallis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. Wallis, granddaughter, Erin Michelle Wallis, and her son-in-law, Nelson Earl, Jr.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home. A reception will be held at Arlington Presbyterian Church following the visitation. A Funeral Service will occur Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Moore Funeral Home.
